Christian Fostering

Navigation:

At Excel, we strongly believe that every child deserves to be placed in a loving and supportive home that respects their unique beliefs and values. If you’re a Christian looking to foster, the following guide explores our ethos, foster care requirements and the support we offer to Christian foster children.

Our Ethos

At Excel, equality, inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice is at the core of all we do. Our priority is to ensure that every child and young person in foster care is protected against discrimination against their gender, race, sex, age, class, religion, sexual orientation, disability, beliefs or ethnicity. Equally, we work hard to ensure that every individual, no matter their background or protected characteristic, has the opportunity to become a foster carer.

Fostering Christian Children

Whilst there is a higher chance that Christian foster parents may be matched to foster a child of a Christian background, this is never guaranteed.

Ensuring your foster child’s cultural and religious needs are met is extremely important to their overall development. Therefore, it’s crucial that you respect and support their religious beliefs and practises, even if you yourself are not religious.

With that said, one of the keys to long term successful foster carers is having access to a good support network. When fostering practising Christian children, you can access a plethora of support from the Christian community – which can create a real sense of community for your foster children and you as foster parents. This is extremely important when raising a Christian foster child – it’s crucial that they feel in touch with their religion and the wider religious community.

Foster Care Requirements

The same foster care requirements apply for all of our foster children. If you’re interested in becoming a foster carer, you must:

  • Be aged 21 or over
  • Have a spare bedroom for a child or young person
  • Be eager to support children and young people and help them thrive
  • Champion inclusivity and equality
  • Have time to foster and flexibility work around a child’s needs

Whether you are single or part of a couple, fostering is the perfect choice for a rewarding career that provides a loving and nurturing home to a young person in need. Find out more about the foster care requirements now.
