Thank You Social Workers!

25th March, 2025

It’s time to recognise the positive contributions made by social workers.

Celebrating Social Work Month 2025

‘Our social worker was our rock. She helped us navigate challenges we never expected, always just a phone call away. Her support gave us the confidence to continue fostering and provide the best care possible.’ – Excel Foster Carer

Dear social workers up and down the UK,

Whether you work for Excel or not, we’re taking the opportunity this Social Work Month to say simply this: Thank you!

Your dedication has the power to alter lives. We witness you work tirelessly, day in day out, to find safe and loving homes for some of the most vulnerable children. Every day, you demonstrate your commitment to improving conditions for children, whether it’s supporting fostering families or advocating for additional resources.

Your emotional strength is inspiring. Being privy to what some children and young people have experienced in their short lives is no easy task. To look upon such adversity and have it spur you to do more to help is a credit, not only to your social work profession, but to you as an individual. We see you champion those who have no voice, absorbing all those emotions expressed by children and families with professionalism and compassion. Using this to fire your determination to make the world a better place.

You are the vital bridge between vulnerable children and fostering families. This job isn’t always easy. Yet you’re the master of spinning many plates, you hold the child at the centre of the care, while implementing essential regulations, being the key point of contact for agencies, support for the fostering family, maintaining contact with the birth families, while knowing children’s laws and always seeking to improve your own knowledge at the same time.

You do everything in your power to see fostering families succeed. A child needs specialist support? You advocate for that! A child has special needs? You arrange specialist training for the foster carers! The foster carer needs to talk? You’re there for a cuppa asap! You want only the best for vulnerable children, and you do this by empowering your foster carers. Always there with a friendly ear, to arrange training and fight their corner. You’re a social work super star.

We see you! We appreciate you! And as we celebrate Social Work Month, we encourage everyone, from foster carers and families, to the wider public, to please take a moment to thank a social worker.
